"I faced oppression from a very early age", says Dabrina Bet-Tamraz. The 37-year-old lived in the Iranian capital Tehran until 2009, where her father was a pastor in an Assyrian church. Now Dabrina lives in Switzerland. She is a pastor there and helps political refugees from Iran as a human rights activist. Recently, she visited the Open Doors Conference at the European Parliament in Brussels.

On 28 January Anahita (Anna) Khademi, the wife of pastor Abdolreza (Matthias) Haghnejad was released on bail of 180 million tomans (approximately US $4,000). She still faces charges, including “propaganda against the system” and “disturbing public opinion.”

The persecution of Christians in Iran was the focus of the presentation of the 2023 World Watch List of the Protestant NGO Open Doors yesterday, Thursday 25 January, at the European Parliament (EP). According to their report, 360 million Christians around the world suffer high levels of persecution and discrimination for their faith, 5621 Christians were murdered and 2110 church buildings were attacked last year.
