The announced visit of Pope Francis to the Kingdom of Bahrain, scheduled for November 3-6, confirms and reinforces the choice of the Al Khalifa royal family, committed to raising the profile of the Kingdom as a place of dialogue, of tolerant welcome and peaceful coexistence between different identities and faith communities, in a world tormented by sectarian conflicts and "clash of civilizations". This is the context in which national media such as Al Ayyam Al Bahraini announce of forthcoming papal visit, collecting around this interpretation also the agreed opinions of well-known exponents of the local Christian communities.

The shadows of civil war loom again over Iraq and some of the small and divided political parties, led by Christian politicians, are trying to find forms of coordination to face together the new threat. In the last few weeks, representatives of several parties founded and led by Chaldean, Assyrian and Syrian Christians have met several times in Erbil (Autonomous Province of Kurdistan) to work out common political strategies and proposals, given the confrontation with the institutions and the political majority blocs that shape the distorted political scene in Iraq. The most recent meeting, held on Saturday, September 3, at the Assyrian Party headquarters, was also attended by representatives of the Patriotic Union of Mesopotamia (Huyodo Bethnahrin Athroyo, HBA) and the Assyrian Democratic Movement (Abnaa al-Nahrain).

The Assyrian Church of the East on Monday opened its new Patriarchate in Erbil, the capital city of the Iraqi Kurdistan region.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Masoud Barzani, president of the ruling Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), Irvin Hicks, the general counsel of the United States in Erbil, Mar Awa Royel, the church's Patriarch, the Christian community, and other Kurdish officials.

The three-day Ankawa Youth Meeting (AYM) started Sept. 1, with youth from as far afield as Zakho, in the far north, Basra in the extreme south-east and Sulaymaniyah close to Iraq’s eastern border.

Iraqi Christians, and those of other Middle Eastern nations too, are heading "towards disappearance" unless there is a "change" in the way of thinking, in governmental, social and economic policies. In his introductory address to the Synod of the Chaldean Church, scheduled to take place in Baghdad from 21 to 27 August, Primate Cardinal Louis Raphael Sako issues a new cry of alarm about the future of the community in a land of which they are an original component. "The Islamic heritage," warns the cardinal, "makes Christians second-class citizens" and tolerates "the usurpation of their property". This is why the basic rules of coexistence must be rewritten, starting with the Constitution according to the principles and ideals affirmed by Pope Francis in Iraq in March 2021.
