Pope Francis said Mass for thousands of Catholics in Bahrain on Saturday, thrilling members of the small foreign Catholic community from around the Gulf and urging them show kindness to their hosts, even if they are sometimes looked down on. The crowd of about 30,000 people that filled Bahrain’s National Stadium was the second-largest gathering for a papal Mass on the Arabian Peninsula, following one that drew more than 100,000 in the United Arab Emirates in 2019.

A high-ranking delegation from the Russian Orthodox Church visited Pope Tawadros II on 7 November at the St Mark’s Cathedral papal headquarters in Abbasiya, Cairo to present him with the Order of Glory and Honour, on behalf of Patriarch Kirill, Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia.
The recognition marks 10 years on the seating of Pope Tawadros II as Patriarch of the See of St Mark, and his 70th birthday. It is also in appreciation of his efforts to nurture relations between the Coptic and Russian Churches.
Metropolitan Anthony of Volokolamsk, chairman of the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate, led the delegation that visited the Pope, and was accompanied by Father Stefan Igumnov, Head of the Secretariat for Inter-Christian Relations of the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate, and Father Alexander, Secretary of the Metropolitan. Metropolitan Volokolamsk expressed his appreciation of the strong ties between the Coptic and the Russian Churches, and commended the prominent role played by Pope Tawadros to nurture and develop relations with the Russian Church.

Syriac monastery in Turkey reopens after 100 years

The Monastery of Mor Efrem (St Ephrem) in Mardin, southern Turkey, an area which was once the heartland of Syriac Christianity, has once again opened its doors to believers.
Patriarch Ignace Joseph III Younan, head of the Syriac Catholic Church, presided over the reconsecration of the building, and celebrated its first Divine Liturgy in a hundred years.
Founded in 1881, the Syriac monastery was seized by the Turkish army during the First World War. It briefly returned to the Church after the war ended, before being transformed into a military hospital in 1922. In more recent times, it had served as a prison and a warehouse.
