The book attempts to challenge the static and discursively government-minded approaches to minorities and minoritisation – especially the traditional emphasis on demographic balances. Α separate chapter analyses the impact of the foundation of the Mandate-era Hashemite state on Christians’ presence in Transjordan, where particular attention has been paid to the configuration of their community spaces and citizen status as the main religious minority in the country. Another chapter examines the depiction of Christians and other communities in the Jordanian Novel in the nation-bulding process, for example the neighbourhood relations between Christians and Muslims in Amman. The editors and contributors of this collection of articles present dynamic and relational perspectives on the status of and historical processes involved in the creation and absorption of minority groups within Jordan, including Christians.
