The book is a collection of articles that aim to cover the crusades from a traditionalist view, a part of a bigger series. The articles offer a pluralistic point on the subject by a multitude of scholars. The collection of the articles is based on point of views from authors that perceive themselves to be working in the field of crusade history and study expeditions to the eastern Mediterranean and the settlements of westerners established there, crusades against heretics and opponents of the church. The subjects in the book have been dealt with the crusades to the Eastern Mediterranean and with the Frankish states of the Levant and their Muslim adversaries, while some were devoted to the crusade idea, propaganda and plans before 1291.
