I am no Orhan Pamuk. I have lived in three different cities for substantial chunks of my life thus far, and all three shaped me deeply; Izmir, Manila and London. I have travelled around the world widely, and am not nostalgic towards a single past moment, city, landscape, or building that encapsulate my story or my identity. However, a few places on earth have given me a sense of everything in my life coming together, and Hagia Sophia has been one of them. That is why the Turkish government’s decision to change its status and use has shaken me personally.

Iranian security forces arrested a female Christian convert in Tehran, after searching her home and confiscating her personal belongings.
According to the Human Rights News Agency, on June 30 security forces went to the home of Maliheh Nazari in Tehran’s Aria Shahr and seized her computer, smartphone, and books.

Amman: Arabs were the first inhabitants of Jerusalem and have lived there for at least 5,000 years, according to a white paper published by an Amman-based think tank.
“They founded and built it in the first place — and have been there ever since,” the paper says.
Using unpublished documents, the paper, from the Royal Aal Al-Bayt Institute for Islamic Thought, seeks to correct the misperception “that Arabs are newcomers to Jerusalem.”

The license for Shelanu TV, the Hebrew-language Christian evangelical TV channel which has been accused of seeking to proselytize in Israel, has been suspended.Shelanu TV, owned by parent company God TV, began broadcasting in Israel on the Hot cable network at the end of April after it received a license from the Council for Cable and Satellite Broadcasting earlier this year.
