This volume is comprised of fourteen different articles on various subjects that offer a detailed analysis of the situation of Christians in the Middle East. It presents a general historical context on a region-wide basis, but also offers specific context for each country of the Middle East with Christian population. The Christian presence is examined in terms of juridical status, social and political dynamics, socio-economic status, and relationship with the Muslim majority. Many articles focus on Copts, the largest Christian community in the region. An overlapping theme is the worry of the authors for the future of the Christians in the Middle East, unless certain actions are taken, thus the book offers some recommendations on strategies to stabilize and strengthen the position of the churches.
